A Desert Rose

There is more to this phrase than I thought.

I started some bare root rose bushes this year, and so far they are doing great! Apparently, roses love loose sandy soil, perfect for our New Mexico desert.

They do need some additional nutrition and water, so I have our drip system set up on them and provide them plenty of plant food. I started with Scott's continuous release plant food and I am now switching to Miracle Grow.

These are all climbing roses, eventually they will grow along the fence line and make a nice wall of roses. This is the goal, but it will take a couple years.
