Chick Shortages
We have been hatching spring chicks and ducks like crazy! Due to COVID-19, everyone has decided that being more self-sufficient would be a good idea. This includes having your own backyard flock for eggs. This is an excellent idea, but sadly has led to a shortage! Many people rely on feed stores like Tractor Supply and large hatcheries to get your chicks. This is a nice option for new chicken owners as the chicks are sexed and you can pick which breeds you would like. However, when this isn't available, shopping local is also an option. At Javelina Range, we are hatching out chicks and ducklings just as fast as we can. Spring is normally a busy time, but the shortages have made it worse. We have completely sold out of our pullets (young female chickens who are not quite laying) and have sold several chicks. Luckily, our new incubator and our several broody hens are more than happy to accommodate.
