Hatching Ducks
We have decided to try something new. I have been doing some reading and it says that you can use a broody hen to hatch some duck eggs. So, we decided that we would put this to the test.
At the moment, we have 5 duck eggs under Oliver.
Duck eggs take 28 days to hatch as opposed to the 21 days of chicken eggs. On average, hens can incubate about a dozen chicken eggs.
At the moment we are doing the 5 duck eggs and in about a week we are hoping to add a few chicken eggs too. I really want some "super blue" hens (blue hen and blue rooster), so I am going to try and get both out of Oliver. The timing is going to be the hard part.
Oliver, one of our biggest hens. This will be her 2nd clutch this year.
