I LOVE Free Roosters!

I love free roosters.

One of the benefits of hatching our own chicks, is that I get to play around with breeding to see what kind of chicks I can get. That being said, the rooster we use will make a big difference.

Luckily, most people hate roosters, since you don't need as many and lots of communities actually have rules that you cant have them because of the crowing. Because of this, you can always find yourself a free rooster, and usually enough roosters to be picky.

For example, you may have seen a previous blog post about Tennessee and Kingpin. Sadly, Kingpin ended up being a big Zucchini eater and was always in the garden, while Tennessee was always picking fights with the young cockerels. So they got the boot!

Now, we have a new rooster, Jack. (I have named him Jack, Kyle is still trying to come up with a new name) He is a Creamy Legbar/Easter Egger rooster. Hopefully he will pass down some of his spots. Since he is a cross, it is possible that he will pass down the colored eggs too, but we wont know for certain until some of his chicks hatch and start laying.
