New Ducks on the Farm
At the farmer's markets we now have quite a few people buying duck eggs from us, so Kyle and I decided to expand the duck empire. We were going to see about getting some this spring when our hens went broody, but we were lucky enough to run across someone who was "clearancing out" her ducks. They incubate and sell the ducklings, usually having about 4-5 per incubation that didn't sell, so these she decided to get rid of at $1 per duck. Usually day old ducklings will run you about
$3-$4.
We got 2 breeds; Indian Runners and Pekins. We did not have any Indian Runners, so this will be a new breed addition. We have a variety of ages as well, ranging from 3 weeks to 4 months.
Currently, we have them in quarantine to prevent any sort of new diseases from transmitting to our flock.
We will be building a second little duck lot to create 2 breeding flocks so we can get some more genetic variation in the flocks.
