Horse Shed - Notching the wood.
Our latest project on the farm has been to make a horse shed.
We are building a 10' x 20' run-in shed for the horses. Currently, we have a separate field with an awning for them, but it is not as big as the original horse field, so we are building a horse shed.
We were able to get the up rights pretty cheap from a man in Socorro who had them laying around his property.
Being married to an engineer, building projects can be both fun and frustrating. After getting the plans arranged in auto-cad, we were able to start assembly. The last couple of weeks has been leveling and prep, but this weekend, the first poles went up!
Before the poles went up, Kyle spent some time notching out the wood. This will allow the top beam to sit into the uprights making it stronger. A thing that always amazes me is that Kyle does the majority of his work by hand. I was able to convince him to use the chainsaw for the first couple cuts. Then he used his wooden mallet (check out the post about him making it) and chisel and went to town! Nothing like a good looking man working with his hands!
