Snow on the Farm

Untitled

Just in time for the New Year, we got hit with a couple snow storms. During the first round, we got almost 6 inches! That melted off a little and about 3 days later we got another 2-3 inches. We still have a little snow on the ground, but the chickens are out and about and it is melting off.

During the first bit it was so deep that some of the poor chickens got stuck in the snow! We had to pick them up and carry them back to the coop!

Because it was so cold, we kept a heat lamp on in the coop 24 hours. Not ideal, as this will encourage the chickens to lay more, but it will keep them from getting frost bite on their combs.

They are all very happy to be out and about now, and are happily scratching and pecking at the left over bits of snow.
